Description

What’s your number one side dish for thanksgiving? If you said creamy mashed potatoes, you’re my people. These babies can give even the driest turkey life. They are smooth, silky and flavor packed. Mashed potatoes have always been a holiday and cold weather dinner side dish staple in my family – an actual hug in a bowl.

Mashed potatoes are the ultimate side for the whole family, toddlers love them, adults can’t get enough and if you have a baby in the house, this is a great way to introduce potatoes. If you don’t want to give your baby dairy and spices just yet, set aside some of the plain potatoes and mash / blend with breast milk or formula.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 russet potatoes ( I usually do 1 potato per person)
  • 3 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 2 tsp salt (add more as needed)
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  • peel and cut potatoes ( this is my favorite knife set)
  • add to a pot and cover with cold water add a good amount of salt (potatoes can handle it)
  • boil until fork tender
  • drain the potatoes, place in a large bowl and mash
  • add in 2 tbsp of butter (its important to add this while hot), salt, pepper and milk
  • blend with a handheld mixer (heres the one I have – been good to me for a long time) on medium speed for about 2 minutes or until smooth
  • top with 1 tbsp butter and garnish with fresh parsley or chives
  • ENJOY!
