Ingredients
- 1 small shallot, minced
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tbsp honey (optional)
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- In a small bowl combine the shallot, Dijon mustard, grated garlic, honey (if using). The honey is optional but adds a subtle sweetness that balances the tanginess of the vinegar.
- add in salt, pepper, oregano, lemon juice and balsamic vinegar
- Slowly drizzle the extra-virgin olive oil into the bowl or jar while whisking vigorously or tightly sealing the lid and shaking well. This emulsifies the dressing, creating a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Taste the dressing and adjust the ingredients as needed. You can add more vinegar for tanginess, more oil for a milder flavor, or more honey for extra sweetness.
- Once you’ve achieved the desired balance of flavors, your classic balsamic vinaigrette is ready.
- Use the dressing immediately to drizzle over your favorite salads, or store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Before using it again, give the vinaigrette a good shake or whisk to recombine the ingredients.
